Born with cerebral palsy, John Quinn hid his disability and endured ongoing pain to not only pass basic training, but also rise to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy.
John speaks on many topics to include –
- Meeting and overcoming adversity.
- Diversity and inclusion – John speaks about how those who are differently-abled do not want the “bar” lowered for them; instead they simply want the opportunity to hit the same standard and expectations as everyone else.
- Overcoming a traumatic event and addiction – John speaks about the suicide of his brother, and his battle with alcoholism and subsequent recovery.
INCLUSION
People with disabilities want to be hired because they are the most qualified for the position. They do not want to fill a space allocated for diversity, nor do they want the job description altered because of their disability.
People with disabilities do not want excuses, they simply want an even playing field to do the job they were hired to do.
TEAM WORK
Growing up in a home with 7 brothers and sisters, John learned that cooperation and teamwork is mandatory when you are living with others.
During his Naval career, John quickly learned the leadership skills needed to get the job done when working with both officers and enlisted men.
